LIVELIHOODS

The Livelihoods program applies the Population, Health and Environment approach to elevate families to a 'model household' level. A 'model household' means that the home practices regenerative agriculture, has a functional pit latrine, hand washing station, a kitchen garden, firewood saving cook stove and that they share information and/or practices about family planning.

We work directly with families in 24 villages across Luuka and Mbale regions in Eastern Uganda. A typical household is under the program for three years before they graduate and become a model household.

Seven years ago, Beatrice joined our PHE program, starting with a kitchen garden before expanding into sustainable farming with coffee and trees.

After getting coffee, hardwood seedlings and other farm inputs from BIC model farm and through her hard work and commitment, she earned and built her own house and bought a car to transport her produce.

Today, Beatrice is a proud program graduate and a peer leader mentoring newly enrolled households. Her success is not the end of the story  it is the beginning of change for others. By sharing her knowledge and experience, she is inspiring other households to grow, thrive, and build a more sustainable future together.

Grassroots regenerative agricultural in our community starts from the community tree and vegetable nursery units to households which translates into a resilient and prosperous community.
